In a comment about yamli.com I was told that Ajnad.com is far superior and more accurate than Yamli.com
I thought it would be cool to compare both side to side, here’s what I got (click to enlarge)
I hate to say this, but this is a MAJOR fail. In the transliteration domain, Yamli is still king!
The folks over at Ajnad, you need to work this out ASAP.
Competition is always healthy. If any of you used Anjad, I would like to hear your thoughts (websites should adapt to our behavior, I am not using IE just because someone didn’t do his homework to make sure that their website is accessible on any browser…sorry!)

I have checked out both of them. I am in the states where we IE is still king. So, I was able to compare the 2 side by side. Guys, please let me know if I missed something.
Ajnad is better in certain things and Yamli is better in certain things.
-Ajnad is better than Yamli in the following:
1. Ajnad is more accurate than Yamli. hands down. So, it terms of translateration, Ajnad seems better.
2. Ajnad has this thing that helps one complete sentences. That is a cool feature
3. Ajnad is more user friendly and easier to use. Fonts are bigger so even without my glasses, I can see things clearly.
Yamli is better than ajnad in that
1. Yamli supports FireFox. Ajnad supports IE only. My hunch is that ajnad is targeting Microsoft software users as opposed to the tech savvy users of FireFox.
2. Yamli is better for online businesses wanting to integrate with it because it has an API to facilitate that. Ajnad is better for the regular user who just wants to type, search, and get it over with
3. Yamli is the first to come up with the idea. Ajnad seems to advance it. So, I give more credit to yamli
Overall, I very much like both of them. I wish the best to both teams.

Thank you Salem! can you please elaborate in which way it’s more accurate, I am intrigued. and when you say more user friendly and easier to use, in which way also?
I really am interested in “easier to use” features, so if you can elaborate or even write a detailed review, I’ll gladly post it here and credit you!

I will try to elaborate to the best I can. I’d love it if you and others compare the two and validate my observations. Because, at first, I thought “ow something out there is giving Yamli a run for the money!”
Accuracy:
There are 3 metrics I use to evaluate accuracy of both translateration engines which are
Given a random word x, does the translateration engine
1. Produce the correct translateration(s)
2. Produce ONLY valid possible translaterations.
3. Order possible translaterations based on common use and context.
-Now, let me take a random word like “Mar7aban” .
Yamli gives about 10 possible words, only 1 word has a meaning in Arabic . The others are not valid words like (مرحابن مارحاباً مرحابان). Obviously, these are not valid words in Arabic.
On the other hand, if you type the same “mar7aban” in ajnad.com you will only get one and only one possibility which is for (مرحبا) which shows that ajnad.com is confident that this is the only possibility with any meaning which is impressive! You can pick any word for that matter and try.
- Say, I want to to type the following text “mmn bhe shabamo” (ممن به شبم ) part of a famous poem for Almotanabbe (المتنبي). If one types “mmn” on Yamli, you never get the correct translateration which is (ممن) on the other hand you do get that on ajnad.com, again impressive.
In addition to showing that ajnad shows all good possibilities and ONLY good possibilities, it shows that Ajnad is more flexible in how one writes. I never wrote a word in any method and ajnad never got it right. For example, if I type “habibi” I get good possibilities I never thought of like (حبايب) in addition to the obvious (حبيبي). This is not true for Yamli. Instead, on Yamli one gets (هبيبي) which is not a valid Arabic word.
In terms of ease of use, I judge this based on these 2 factors
1. Can a user type a word in any valid method and get valid words. For ajnad.com this is very true but not for Yamli. See the example I mentioned above on “habibi”. Also, ajnad has advanced this further by allowing users to represent difficult letters like hamza with ‘ and ajnad figures out how to write hamza. For example:
m’sasa = مؤسسة
mr’t = مرأة
b’r = بئر
2. ajnad.com has auto complete feature that I very much like. I can type part of a sentence and It will complete it for me. This saves me from typing too much
3. Fonts are bigger and easier to read and site is less crowded in ajnad
Now, my concerns about ajnad are
1. It does not support FireFox. They should look into this.
2. There are occasional bugs. It seems that they are still building the site.
I wish the best to both players, Yamli and Ajnad. They both are doing great job.
