I was aiming to raise just like last year 250$ (Managed to raise 350$ instead), but this year you all guys surprised me and managed to raise 954$ for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. That’s almost 4 times more than the initial goal.

I would like to thank every single person who liked the page, the endless tweets and retweets, all 26 donors, everyone who helped spread the word, thank you endlessly for making it a perfect birthday and helping the kids even with a small donation. Everything counts!

You guys are awesome!

I’ll leave you with a video and get back into why I personally think that the campaign is a success so far.

1. One call to action with the snowball effect

You know someone who has a Nokia and doesn’t have apps installed on it? Report them! And in return they will report others. Nokia is recruiting informants to work for ONE campaign and ONE goal. People are involved and not just winning based on their ability to cyber beg people to like their photo or video. That’s creative.

2. Campaign extends offline

You surley bumped into the “nokia patrol” at a mall or at the movies (along with their ad spots), or saw their cars “patroling” around. And they actually help you out installing apps.

3. The campaign drives fans to a site. Not just another Facebook page.

Yes, facebook pages are cool, easy to manage and all, but here we have another touch point then the usual facebook page, you can report people through a microsite.

4. Engaging

Yip, again, you are not being bombarded with a message to “like” something and win. You are actually engaging with Nokia, being a part of the Nokia team, fighting a crime ie having a smartphone with no apps on it and not using it to its full potential

5. Time driven

Holidays are around the corner, malls and streets are flooded with people. Perfect time to reach out its own masses (which by numbers, Nokia still reigns). In less than a week, people oversees are already talking about it, fans and non fans like it, their page jumped to +30k. It’s pretty smart funny different and one of the ways campaigns should be.

I thought that the Dual Sim Campaign in Egypt was smart, well Nokia outdid themselves again.

Guest post by Khaled Itani

For those disenchanted with the latest Apple keynote (Oct. 4, 2011) and specifically the newest iOS news (iPhone 4S release) here’s an alternative perspective on how big this launch is (not just for apple, but rather the market as a whole)

The key learning from Nick Bolton’s NYTimes post is this: Androids are selling more than iPhones mainly due to price point.

Apple is about to change that game in 2 steps:

a new state of the art device with killer specs ($200-$400 price point)

offer an older release free of charge (iPhone 3GS) for the masses

For those residing outside the US, or unaware of how telecom operates here, you should know that the targeted consumer does not purchase a phone. You lock yourself in a service plan that comes with a device. Buying a phone really is ‘switching a plan’ or ‘going with another provider’

Keeping that in mind, and seeing the new dual-core A5 chip that allows the phone to not only function on all networks (sprint, Verizon and AT&T) but rather more providers abroad, Apple is sending out a clear message here: it is now possible for anyone to have an iPhone.

Key point: new launches are not just about the product itself, but sometimes they are just about the market as a whole.

So after watching that video, You have no excuses anymore.

Basel Anabtawi MUST meet Metallica. end of story. No discussions. The guy is a die hard fan (borderline scary…) he got out of his way and started a campaign on Twitter and Facebook to get to “meet n greet” Metallica.

My audience is mainly from the States (beats me! could this be the reason?) so dear James, Lars, Kirk & Robert, I know you are lurking (you are after all my biggest fans) FOR THE LOVE OF WHATEVER YOU HOLD DEAR! FOR ALL THE HEADACHES AND DIZZINESS WE GOT FROM HEADBANGING TO YOUR MUSIC, FOR ALL THE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS THAT MY NEIGHBORS WENT THROUGH JUST BECAUSE I WAS TEACHING THEM THE ART BEHIND METALLICA:

BASSEL ANABTAWI MUST MEET YOU GUYS

Youtube is filled with meet n greet videos, you met all these people, so PUT BASEL ANABTAWI ON YOUTUBE TOO!

I’ll leave you with a message from the man himself

You can help by heading to here and here!

A while ago I posted something about a real gem I stumbled upon while searching for some tools to make my life easier during interviews for UX projects, the gem is Cohdoo Highlight for iPhone

I can’t emphasize how much I use it, how much I really love it, and how it is one of the reasons why no matter what phones I use, I keep the iPhone on me.

One of the downsides of the Cohdoo Highlight was that you can download the files to your computer and listen to them but without the highlights that you “tapped” while recording the interview.

I was excited about the Player, it saves time and don’t have to drain the phone’s battery while listening and writing in the report.

First things first, it’s a player. This is what it does, it plays back your recordings. End of story.

No complications no nothing. BUT (after the screen shot)

When you first fire it up, it doesn’t give you a quick guide on how to transfer the files from your iPhone to your Mac. It would be a nice addition, I scratched my head for a few seconds before remembering how to (plug iphone, run itunes on desktop, open apps, scroll down to sharing, click Highlight, click on file, save to, voila! or directly from your dropbox if enabled)

It would be nice to have a quick walkthrough.

After transferring the files, it’s pretty straight forward from there, open the file you want and you get all the information you saved using your phone. Jumping to highlights is a breeze, you get the location on the map to remind you where the interview took place.

Simple, sweet, straight to the point, right arrow to jump to the next highlight, left for the previous one…can’t get any simpler.

However, as much as it made my life easier to listen directly on my laptop to the recordings and jumping to the highlights, I noticed that there were a few points I missed during the interview (yes, my bad, it happens!) I would’ve liked to add highlights/rename highlights and most of all add comments right from the desktop app (it’s no biggie to fix/add/edit comments/names/pictures on the iPhone)

Is it worth 4$? Well you can listen to the recordings on quicktime, but you won’t get the highlights. It’s a first release, I am hoping in the future ones we will be able to edit the files. It would’ve been “nice” to have it for free because it compliments the iPhone app and non Highlight users cannot use it anyway…Should you get it? it’s only 4$ give it a spin! Just remember, it’s only a player! (lost much?)
